Open Capsulectomy with En Bloc Removal
We're here in the operating room today and we're doing what is called an open capsulectomy with en block removal of the implant. And as you can see, this is a capsule that forms around the implant and I just opened the implant here. You can see the implant underneath here and what we've done is we've dissected the capsule from the surrounding tissue completely and we're going to come around the whole edge of this capsule and then remove the implant with the capsule and that will completely remove both the implant and the capsule altogether.
Now this is different than what we call capsulotomy, where we just open the capsule and release the contraction of the capsule. This is actually a total removal of the entire of breast capsule that forms around the breast implant. At this point, we have removed the entire breast implant that is intact with the complete surrounding breast capsule. I'm just going to raise this up so you can see this. So this was the capsule surrounding the implant, of course this contracted a little bit, but the entire breast capsule has been removed in its entirety around the implant. As you can see this is what it looks like with the capsule around it. And this is honestly a quite very thin capsule around this implant and you see that well and this is called a complete capsulectomy.
