About Chemical Peels
For the highest quality results from chemical peel facial treatments, Plastic Surgery Center of Baton Rouge provides you with several choices. Your personalized chemical peel with exfoliating solutions (such as salicylic, glycolic, trichloroacetic, and lactic acids) will reveal smoother, healthier skin. At our Baton Rouge, LA office, cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. John Williams offers chemical peel treatments that solve skin abnormalities, like scars, fine lines, wrinkles, rough patches, hyperpigmentation problems, and more. Chemical peels remove dead, damaged skin cells by applying a personalized peel on the skin that causes the upper layer to slough off. When your skin recovers and starts to repair and rejuvenate itself, you may see a smoother, clearer complexion. A chemical peel facial is a nonsurgical method to make your complexion radiant and can be used for the neck and face.
Variations of Chemical Peels
At our Baton Rouge, LA office, we perform chemical peels in multiple levels of strength (light, medium, and deep) to meet our patients' skin concerns.
Light peels: You can receive a light peel during your lunchtime and return back to your routine. This level of peel will remove the outer skin layer (the epidermis), giving your face a more radiant appearance and smoother texture. We usually recommend that you receive a light chemical peel about once a month for the ideal glowing results.
Medium-depth peels: This level of peel reaches further into the skin, and patients generally decide to have this strength of facial treatment during an extended weekend. You may also need to ready yourself for increased discomfort during and up to one hour following the peel. Medium-depth peels are designed for patients who have deeper damage to their skin, including deeper lines and darker pigmentation problems.
Deep peels: The strongest of the three levels of peels is the deep chemical peel, and it does require the lengthiest recovery time. This is an aggressive procedure that can leave your face itchy, peeling, and swollen for 2 – 3 weeks. Patients who get a deep chemical peel generally have age or dark spots, sun damage, prominent acne scars, and deep scars. Since this level of chemical peel is usually uncomfortable for patients, your aesthetician can provide you with local anesthesia before your peel.
"Dr. Williams was awesome! I had plastic surgery from a nationally renowned surgeon in Houston and my incision got infected. Dr Williams treated me for the infection which required antibiotics and additional surgery to removed the infected tissue and another surgery to sew me back up. His work was neater and tighter than the first surgeon’s. I returned for more liposuction later and he did a wonderful job! His staff is very friendly and it’s super easy having procedures performed at his office. Everything was first rate!"- T.C. / Google / May 16, 2019
"From the second I stepped into this office I was greeted very warmly by both office staff and Dr. Williams! They worked with me to make sure I was happy and comfortable throughout the entire process before, during, and after my surgery. I could not be more pleased with the quality and skill Dr. Williams has in addition to the pride he takes in his work. He even reassured my mom while I was in recovery which meant so much to me. I would highly recommend Dr. Williams for all of your plastic surgery needs!"- S.S. / Google / Feb 24, 2021
"Great staff and had an excellent surgical experience with awesome results!"- I.P. / Google / Jan 08, 2021
"After losing 70+ pounds; I went to see Dr. Williams for a tummy tuck and arm lift in June 2020 Dr. Williams and his staff are super friendly, knowledgeable and made me feel so comfortable. Due to the time under anesthesia needed to do both procedures at one time; I chose to do the arm lift first. I had my arm lift in July 2020. I am beyond pleased. My after care was top notch and I am very pleased with the outcome of my arms. They all truly, truly care about their patients. I can now wear sleeveless shirts with confidence. I am scheduled to return in December 2020 for a lower body lift!! I am super excited to see those results! Thank you to Dr. Williams and all of those sweet girls that work with him! If you are considering any kind of surgery; I highly recommend Dr. Williams!"- S.L. / Google / Oct 19, 2020
"There are no words for how beautiful I feel! Ever since I was little I dreamed of having a small cute nose and my dreams have finally come true. Chemical Peel Ideal Candidates
Getting the recommendations of a cosmetic specialist is the first part of the journey to healthy, smooth skin. A team member at Plastic Surgery Center of Baton Rouge will evaluate your skin during an exam in our Baton Rouge, LA office before selecting a chemical peel for best results. Chemical peel patients, both women and men, should have visible concerns on their skin, including rough patches, acne scars, discoloration, flaky skin, fine lines, sun spots, and more. We may recommend varying strengths of peels to match your concerns.
Chemical Peels Procedure Technique
During your appointment at Plastic Surgery Center of Baton Rouge, we will have you lying in a comfortable position to administer your treatment. A team member will ensure the skin is cleaned prior to applying the personalized solution to the face, neck, or both. We will spread the solution onto the skin and allow it to work for an appropriate length of time that will be determined in your chemical peel consultation. Next, we will clean the peel off your skin and put on a neutralizing agent. Patients should bring sunscreen and/or a hat to wear outside following the peel to protect against UV exposure.
What to Expect from a Chemical Peel
Based on the strength of the chemical peel you receive, you should expect the treated area to peel and itch from several days to two or more weeks. Dr. Williams or a member of his team will go over ways to treat your face during your procedure. Please remember that no matter how badly your skin itches throughout the recovery, it's not good to peel the skin off. You may create scarring to your skin!
Frequently Asked Questions for Chemical Peels
How much does a chemical peel cost?
Dr. Williams can go over your costs during your consultation as soon as he has developed your custom treatment plan. Costs for a chemical peel will vary, depending on the formula you select. Plastic Surgery Center of Baton Rouge takes several payment methods, and there are often specials on treatments, like chemical peels. Buying a package with several chemical peel treatments can also help you save money.
What level should I choose for my chemical peel?
Which level of chemical peel is best for you will vary based on your specific skin issues and aesthetic goals. In your initial consultation with Dr. Williams, he can help you choose which chemical peel is best for your skin. A few things you might consider are your general health, the type of skin you have, the depth of your skin concerns, the time you can commit to recovery, and what you want the peel to accomplish. Initially, it's better to select a light chemical peel and decide what you think of the results. After this, you and Dr. Williams may alter your plan to decide the best type of peel for your skin.
Should I get a chemical peel or dermabrasion treatment?
Chemical peels and dermabrasion are both facial treatments that address surface blemishes to make your skin a smoother appearance. The main difference is that dermabrasion requires special tools (a shaving instrument or rotating brush) to clear away the surface skin layer with a careful exfoliating process. A chemical peel applies a caustic solution to your skin to dissolve damaged skin cells. In your initial consultation, Dr. Williams will explain the pros and cons of both options and help you choose if dermabrasion or a chemical peel best fits your skin goals.
Will my face hurt after a chemical peel?
Based on the chemicals selected, you might feel mild discomfort throughout the treatment and shortly after. If you choose a light peel, you may notice a little discomfort; however, this can be alleviated with a small fan. Deep or medium peels are better for deeper issues and give you longer-lasting results; however, they usually cause greater discomfort. Numbing cream, medications, and ointments may be used to help you feel more comfortable during your chemical peel. Dr. Williams or a member of his team will explain post-treatment skin care to help your skin heal.
Can I combine a chemical peel with other treatments?
You may consider combining a chemical peel with another skin treatment at Plastic Surgery Center of Baton Rouge. In your initial consultation, be open with Dr. Williams when describing your skin problems so he can develop a unique treatment plan to achieve your goals. Your plan might include an injectable treatment for wrinkles (such as Juvéderm or BOTOX), plus a chemical peel to refresh your entire face.
