Ideal Candidates for Breast Augmentation
You may consider Breast Augmentation for several reasons. Some of the most common include the following:
- You feel your breasts are disproportionately small for your body
- Your breasts are noticeably uneven in size
- You’ve lost a lot of weight, leading to smaller breasts
- Your breasts have become smaller or less firm after having children
Your Initial Consultation with Dr. John Williams
Your initial visit to Dr. Williams Baton Rouge offices is a great opportunity to get trustworthy information about breast augmentation. The surgeon will discuss breast augmentation and help you decide whether or not to move forward with this procedure. Dr. Williams will also discuss the risks associated with the procedure, as well as what you should expect during the recovery duration. After conducting an evaluation of the patient, the surgeon will come up with a proper treatment plan to achieve the desired results. Other information that will be exchanged during this important visit include the implant options, the location of the implant, the location of the incision, and the breast implant size.

Types of Breast Implants
Saline-filled breast implants contain a saline solution similar to the fluid in our bodies. Saline implants have the advantage of being adjustable, which is helpful if your breasts are of different sizes. Dr. Williams inserts these implants empty and then fills them to the desired size.
Silicone breast implants contain silicone gel that feels more like natural breast tissue. These implants are very common in breast surgery today. If a silicone implant leaks, the gel may escape to the surrounding breast implant pocket. Since the implant does not collapse after a leak, patients who receive these implants may need to undergo periodic MRI screening to ensure that the implant is functioning properly.
Gummy Bear Implants
These are the latest breast implants, also known as cohesive gel silicone implants. The cohesive implant is filled with silicone that is like a soft solid (like a Gummy Bear candy) rather than the previous liquid silicone. The new silicone implants fix the previous problems with unrecognized rupture, leakage, and capsular contraction. Silicone-filled breast implants feel natural compared to saline implants in women with small amounts of breast tissue.
Natural Body Tissue
Breast augmentation may also be done by removing unwanted fat from your abdomen, thighs, or hips and transferring this tissue into your breasts. This option allows the surgeon to sculpt other areas of your body (thighs, abdomen, or hips) at the same time as the augmentation surgery. However, this method has limitations when it comes to size, and the transferred fat may be absorbed by the body. This breast augmentation approach is best suited for women who desire a modest increase in size without the use of implants.
Breast Augmentation Incision Placements
Dr. Williams’ incisions leave the smallest, least-noticeable scars. During your consultation, he explains the advantages and disadvantages of every incision option:
This is where the lower part of your areola meets your skin. The scar is very discrete hidden within color contrast of the areola and natural skin tone of the breast or body
This incision point is in the skin crease under your breast. Women’s breasts have a natural drop, which provides good camouflage for the scar to be hidden.
This is an increasingly more popular incision placement in the armpit. Many women opt for this option if they fear they may scar too much on their breasts. Dr. Williams will help you decide if transaxillary incisions are a good option for your breast aug surgery.
Choosing Breast Implants Size
Dr. Williams understands that every woman’s body is different. Beginning in 2018, 3D Virtual Reality technology will be offered. This technology is unlike anything else to date and creates an environment where you can actually see yourself in three dimensions. This technology allows you to be placed in a virtual environment allowing you to see yourself and your breasts with different sizes and styles of implants and allow you to determine what’s best for your body.
Smaller Implant Size
Many breast augmentation patients desire a shapely figure to enhance their appearance and allow them to “fill out” different types of clothing. They are interested in natural-appearing breasts that do not look artificial. For these patients, implants ranging from 200 cc to 400 cc are often a good choice. Implants in this range can create attractive, sensual curves that enhance the patient’s sense of femininity and self-confidence, while still looking proportional and balanced. Our patient consultant will show you many before and after photos of our patients. It is critical that you carefully consider the size you wish to become.
Larger Implant Size
For patients who are interested in more dramatic breast enhancement, larger implants can help them achieve that goal. Implants between 500cc to 800cc can be appropriate for some women. Dr. Williams will show you before-and-after photos of some women with larger breasts to help you decide if that look is right for you. He considers your body shape and type, and the amount of breast and skin tissue that you have, before recommending implant size.
Breast Implant Placement
In most cases, breast implants are positioned in a space behind the breast muscle. In some cases though (depending on the patient), the surgeon will place the implant over the muscle behind the breast tissue.
Dr. John Williams uses a smooth surface implant that allows for natural movement within the breast pocket. He offers a variety of style options.
- High profile, providing the most projection
- Moderate profile, providing medium projection
- Low profile, providing the least projection
What to Expect During and After Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast augmentation is typically an outpatient procedure that is performed under general anesthesia. In some unique cases, overnight stay is required for further monitoring of the patient. The surgery takes 1-3 hours to complete. Minimal movement is advised over the first few weeks following the procedure. Heavy lifting, exercising, and other strenuous activities should be avoided until your breast augmentation surgeon gives a green light. Although there’s usually scaring after breast augmentation surgery, it’s minimal and tends to fade with time. Recovery depends on you and size of the implants, with larger implants usually resulting in more pain after the procedure. You can return to work within the week.
Planning for Your Breast Aug Procedure
Breast augmentation in Baton Rouge and Alexandria cost ranges between $5,500 and $10,500 depending on the extensiveness of the procedure.
